Not only the Swiss village of Davos is host of the World Economic Forum, Thailand is also running a regional forum. The three-day WEF on East Asia began in Bangkok on Wednesday. Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra inaugurated the event.
Over 600 participants from 50 countries are meeting under the theme of "Shaping the Region's Future through Connectivity". On top of the agenda are the economic outlook for the East Asian region, the type of financial policies needed to manage inflation, capital outflows and commodity price volatility.
Also discussed will be how to better integrate the 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, ASEAN. Combined, ASEAN has a population of over 600 million and a nominal GDP exceeding 1.8 trillion U.S. dollars.
