  阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A.B.C和D项中,选出最佳选项。

I came to study in the United States a year ago. Yet I did not know the real American society until I was injured in a car accident because after the accident I had to see a doctor and go to court.

After the accident , my roommate called a doctor for me. I was very grateful and determined to repay him one day . But the next day , he asked me to pay him $200 for what he had done . I was astonished . He had good reason to charge me , he said. And if I wanted to collect money from the person who was responsible for my injury , I’d have to have a good lawyer. And only a good doctor can help me get a good lawyer .Now that he had helped me find a good doctor , it was only fair that I should pay him .But every time I went to see the doctor , I had to wait about 50 minutes . He would see two or three patients at the same time ,and often stop treating one so as to see another . Yet he charged me $115 each time . The final examination report consisted of ten lines , and it cost me $215. My lawyer was all smiles the first time we met . But after that he avoided seeing me at all . He knew very well the other party was responsible for the accident , yet he hardly did anything . He simply waited to collect his money . He was so irresponsible that I decided to dismiss him . And he made me pay him $770.

Now I had to act as my own lawyer. Due to my inexperience, I told the insurance company the date I was leaving America . Knowing that ,they played for time,… and I left without getting a cent.

My experiences taught me two things about America: firstly, in a country like America money is everything . It is more important than friendship, honor or professional morality . Secondly ,foreigners are still being unfairly treated. So when we talk about America , we should see both its good and bad sides .

  1. The author’s roommate offered to help him because __________.

  B. he thought it was a chance to make some money

  C. he knew the doctor was a very good one

  D. he wanted the author to have a good lawyer

  A. be responsible

  B. accuse

  C. ask as a price

  D. claim

  4. Both the doctor and the lawyer in this passage are very ___________.

  A. friendly

  B. greedy

  C. professional

  D. busy

  5. What conclusion can you draw from the story ?

  A. Going to court is something very common in America.

  B. One must be very careful while driving a car .

  C. there are more bad sides in America than good sides .

  D. Money is more important than other things in the US.

2016高考训练题。阅读理解阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。Grown-ups are often surprised by how well they remember something they learned as children but have never practiced ever since. A man who has not had a chance to go swimming for years can still swim as well as ever when he gets back in the water. He can get on a bicycle after many years and still ride away. He can play catch and hit a ball as well as his son. A mother who has not thought about the words for years can teach her daughter the poem that begins "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" or remember the story of Cinderella or Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

One explanation is the law of overlearning, which can be stated as follows: Once we have learned something, additional learning trials increase the length of time we will remember it.

In childhood we usually continue to practice such skills as swimming, bicycle riding, and playing baseball long after we have learned them. We continue to listen to and remind ourselves of words such as "Twinkle, twinkle, little star" and childhood tales such as Cinderella and Goldilocks. We not only learn but overlearn.

The multiplication tables(乘法口诀表)are an exception to the general rule that we forget rather quickly the things that we learn in school, because they are another of the things we overlearn in childhood. The law of overlearning explains why cramming (突击学习)for an examination, though it may result in a passing grade, is not a satisfactory way to learn a college course. By cramming, a student may learn the subject well enough to get by on the examination, but he is likely soon to forget almost everything he learned. A little overlearning, on the other hand, is really necessary for one's future development

  C. making a comparison

  D. using examples

  3. According to the author, being able to use multiplication tables is_______.

  B. a special case of cramming

  C. a skill to deal with math problems

  D. a basic step towards advanced studies

  4. What is the author's opinion on cramming?

  参考答案1—4、ADAB

  阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A.B.C和D项中,选出最佳选项。

Do you want to live with a strong sense of peacefulness, happiness, goodness, and self-respect? The collection of happiness actions broadly categorized(把…归类) as "honor" help you create this life of good feelings.

Here's an example to show how honorable actions create happiness.

Say a store clerk fails to charge us for an item. If we keep silent, and profit from the clerk's mistake, we would drive home with a sense of sneaky(卑鄙的) excitement. Later we might tell our family or friends about our good fortune. On the other hand, if we tell the clerk about the uncharged item, the clerk would be grateful and thank us for our honesty. We would leave the store with a quiet sense of honor that we might never share with another soul.

Then, what is it to do with our sense of happiness?

In the first case, where we don't tell the clerk, a couple of things would happen. Deep down inside we would know ourselves as a type of thief. In the process, we would lose some peace of mind and self-respect. We would also demonstrate(演示) that we cannot be trusted, since we advertise our dishonor by telling our family and friends. We damage our own reputations by telling others. In contrast, bringing the error to the clerk's attention causes different things to happen. Immediately the clerk knows us to be honorable. Upon leaving the store, we feel honorable and our self-respect is increased.

Whenever we take honorable action we gain the deep internal rewards of goodness and a sense of nobility.

There is a beautiful positive cycle that is created by living a life of honorable actions. Honorable thoughts lead to honorable actions. Honorable actions lead us to a happier existence. And it's easy to think and act honorably again when we're happy. While the positive cycle can be difficult to start, once it's started, it's easy to continue. Keeping on doing good deeds brings us peace of mind, which is important for our happiness.

  1. According to the passage, the positive action in the example contributes to our_______.

  A. self-respect

  B. financial rewards

  C. advertising ability

  D. friendly relationship

  2. The author thinks that keeping silent about the uncharged item is equal to_______.

  A. lying

  B. stealing

  C. cheating

  D. advertising

  3. The underlined phrase "bringing the error to the clerk's attention" means_______.

  A. telling the truth to the clerk

  B. offering advice to the clerk

  C. asking the clerk to be more attentive

  D. reminding the clerk of the charged item

  4. How will we feel if we let the clerk know her mistake?

  A. We'll be very excited.

  B. We'll feel unfortunate.

  C. We'll have a sense of honor.

  D. We'll feel sorry for the clerk.

  5

Which of the following can be the best title of this passage?

  A. How to Live Truthfully

  B. Importance of Peacefulness

  C. Ways of Gaining Self-respect

  D. Happiness through Honorable Actions

2016高考训练题。阅读理解阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。For six hours we: shot through the landscape of the Karoo desert in South Africa. Just rocks and sand and baking sun. Knowing our journey was ending, Daniel and I just wanted to remember all we had seen and done. He used a camera. I used words. I had already finished three notebooks and was into the fourth, a beautiful leather notebook I’d bought in a market in Mozambique.

Southern Africa was full of stories. And visions. We were almost drank on sensations. The roaring of the at Victoria Falls, the impossible silence of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. And then the other things: dogs in the streets, whole families in Soweto living in one room, a kilometre from clean water.

As we drove towards the setting sun, a quietness fell over us. The road was empty—we hadn’t seen another car for hours. And as I drove, something caught my eye, something moving next to me. I glanced in the mirror of the car; I glanced sideways to the right, and that was when I saw them. Next to us, by the side of the road, thirty, forty wild horses were racing the car, a cloud of dust rising behind them—brown, muscular horses almost close enough to touch them, to smell their hot breath. I didn’t know how long they had been there next to us.

I shouted to Dan: “Look!”, but he was in a deep sleep, his camera lying useless by his feet. They raced the car for a few seconds, then disappeared far behind us, a memory of heroic forms in the red landscape. When Daniel woke up an hour later I told him what had happened.

“Wild horses?” he said. “Why didn’t you wake me up?”

“I tried. But they were gone after a few seconds.”

“Are you sure you didn’t dream it?”

“You were the one who was sleeping!”

“Typical,” he said. “The best photos are the ones we never take.”

We checked into a dusty hotel and slept the sleep of the dead.

  1. During their journey in Africa, the two travelers ________.

  A. made friends with local residents

  B. recorded their experiences in different ways

  C. enjoyed the sunset in the Karoo desert most

  D. complained about the poor living conditions

  2. What does the phrase “heroic forms” in Paragraph 4 refer to?

  A. Wild horses.

  B. Racing ears.

  C. Eye-catching locals.

  D. Running dogs.

  3. What did Daniel think when he woke up and was told what had happened?

  A. A sound sleep was more important.

  B. He had already taken beautiful pictures.

  C. He always missed out on the best thing.

  D. The next trip would be better.

  4. What’s the passage mainly about?

  A. How to view wildlife in Africa.

  B. Possible dangers of travelling in the desert.

  C. Tourist attractions in southern Africa.

  D. Running into wildlife in Africa.
