A quick-thinking doctor saved the life of his pet tortoise(乌龟) after it nearly drowned by giving it mouth-to-mouth breath.
The tortoise Atlas was having a run outdoors which had some water in a container about ten inches long — the same width as his shell. He had just fallen in. The eight-year-old appeared to have drowned in its water bowl at Ben Waterfall’s home in Swimbridge, Devon.
The horrified family doctor, Dr. Waterfall, who had been tending his garden, saw the tortoise half sink in the bowl and picked him up to find it was not breathing. His back feet stuck up out of the water.
He quickly took it out and started giving it mouth-to-mouth breath. He had his mouth over its whole head, mouth, and nose. Then he changed it to sort of breathing into its nostrils(鼻孔). He did six minutes before it slowly started breathing. After that he breathed a sign of relief.
The pet owner took Atlas to a vet’s (宠物医院) to be checked out in case it had any water in its lungs. “The vets’ jaw dropped,” added the doctor, “and there is a mixture of laughter and then kind of saying well done for giving it a go.”

A. is quick at decision-making
B. is an expert at tortoise

A. He took his tortoise out for a run.
B. He was working in his garden when he saw the tortoise fall into the bowl.
C. He took the tortoise out and waited a few minutes for it to recover.
D. He thought it over before giving the tortoise mouth-to-mouth breath.
4. Which of the following would be the most proper title for the text?
A. A Drowning Tortoise
B. The Owner and Its Tortoise
C. Kissing a Tortoise for Its Life
D. Giving Mouth-to-mouth Breath
