A.Based
B.Basing

Shock account of Bin Laden’s death
A new version of the killing of al-Qaeda(基地组织) terror chief Osama Bin Laden calls into question the official White House version of events.
Bin Laden died inside a walled compound in the Pakistani garrison town(有驻防的城市)of Abbottabad, outside Islamabad. His death came after a ten-year search by US intelligence teams following al-Qaeda’s 9/11 attacks on the US,and was immediately greeted as a triumph by President Barack Obama’s administration.
It also provided the US with a chance to declare victory in its War on Terror. But details released this week from Mr Pfarrer’s new book claims the reality was rather different, and that by announcing the death of the terrorist leader so quickly the US missed a chance to use intelligence seized during the raid that could have led them to other al-Qaeda leaders. Bin Laden was armed when he was killed by US Navy Seal commandos(突击队)and it took 90 seconds, not 45 minutes,to kill him,Mr Pfarrer claims, based on interviews with the Seals involved in the operation.
He also claims Bin Laden’s deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri,set up Bin Laden by repeatedly sending to his hideout in Abbottabad a courier(通讯员)who had been questioned by the CIA.
“Despite knowing that this operative was blown,_Zawahiri used Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti to make repeated trips to Bin Laden’s compound,” Mr Pfarrer claims in his book.“Based on this accumulation of information, one can draw the conclusion that it was Zawahiri who led the US to Bin Laden’s hiding place in Abbottabad, accomplishing this through a complex and persistent series of loss in security.”
1. Which of the following is NOT in accordance with the passage ?
A.Mr Pfarrer’s new book makes people question White House’s version on Bin Laden’s death.
B.Bin Laden died inside a walled compound of the inner Islamabad.
C.Bin Laden’s death was hailed as a triumph by Obama’s administration.
D.The US seized the chance to declare victory in the war against Terror.
由文中第二段的“Bin Laden died inside a walled compound in the Pakistani ..., outside Islamabad.”
2. In Mr Pfarrer’s opinion, he thought ________.
A.the US shouldn’t announce the death of Bin Laden so quickly
B.it took 90 minutes rather than 45 minutes to kill Bin Laden
C.the US should declare the victory as soon as possible
D.the US seized the chance to use intelligence caught during the raid
解析:选A。 文中第三段提到“by announcing the death of the terrorist leader so quickly the US missed a chance to use ....”
3. The most probable informer who led the US to Bin Laden’s hiding place is ________.
A.Zawahiri
B.Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti
C.Mr Pfarrer
D.a courier
解析:选A。 文中末段提到“one can draw the conclusion that it was Zawahiri who led the US to Bin Laden’s hiding place...”
4. The underlined word in the passage possibly means________.
A.given away
B.blown away
C.carried away
D.cut off
解析:选A。 上文提到“a courier who had been questioned by the CIA”,由此可知,该通讯员受到中央情报局的审问,故身份已经暴露,此处blown是“泄漏”之意,故与give away相吻合。
B
(2012·高考安徽卷)Welcome to one of the largest collections of footwear(鞋类)in the world that will make you green with envy. Here at the Footwear Museum you can see exhibits(展品)from all over the world. You can find out about shoes worn by everyone from the Ancient Egyptians to pop stars.
5.Where would you find a famous singer’s shoes?
A.Room 1.
B.Room 2.
C.Room 3.
D.The Footwear Library.
解析:选A。 Room 1属于名人鞋类展室,a famous singer属于a celebrity,故选A。第一个方框中的“belonging to everyone from queens and presidents to pop stars and actors”也是解题信息。
6.All exhibits in each room ________.
A.share the same theme
B.have the same shape
C.are made of the same material
D.belong to the same social class
解析:选A。
7.Which of the following is true according to the text?
A.The oldest exhibits in Room 1 were made in the 1950s.
B.Room 2 is the most visited place in the museum.
C.Room 3 has a richer variety of exhibits than the other two.
D.Researchers come to the Footwear Library for data.
根据第一个方框首句“The celebrity(名人)footwear section is probably the most popular in the entire museum.” 根据第四个方框中的“Designers and researchers come here to look up information on anything and everything related to the subject of footwear.”
8.The purpose of the text is to get more people to ________.
A.do research
B.design shoes
C.visit the museum
D.follow celebrities
Welcome to...Most visitors...Most of our visitors...
