Danielle Steel comes from New York and was sent to France for her education. After graduation, she worked in the public relations and advertising industries.Later she started a job as a writer which she was best fit for.Her achievements are unbelievable: 390 million copies of books in print, nearly fifty New York Times bestselling novels, and a series of Max and Martha picture books for children to help them deal with the reallife problem of death, new babies and new schools. Her 1998 book about the death of her son was shot to the top of the New York Times bestselling list as soon as it came out.Twentyeight of her books have been made into films. She is listed in the Guinness Books of World Records for one of her books being the Times bestseller for 381 weeks straight.

Not content with a big house, a loving family, and a view of the Golden Gate Bridge, Danielle Steel considers her readers to be the most important resource and has kept in touch with them by email. While she is often compared to the heroines (女主人公) of her own invention, her life is undoubtedly much quieter. But if she does have anything in common with them, it is her strength of will and her inimitable style. There is only one Danielle Steel.

With large and small keyboards everywhere, neither children nor adults need to write much of anything by hand. That's a big problem.Study after study suggests that handwriting is important for brain development—helping kids get fine motor skills and learn to express and create ideas.Yet the time devoted to teaching penmanship (书法) in most schools has shrunk to just one hour a week.Is it time to give up handwriting? Have a look at the link between the brain and penmanship, and you may get the answer.

A test among students in grades 2, 4 and 6 found that they not only wrote faster by hand than by keyboard, but also created more ideas when composing essays with handwriting. And other research shows that the finger movements required to write by hand activate brain areas involved with thought, language, and shortterm memory.

A recent Indiana University study had one group of children practice writing letters by hand while a second group just looked at those letters. Then, both groups of kids entered a functional MRI (核磁共振) that scanned their brains as the researchers showed them the same letters.Researchers found that the brain activity in the first group was far more advanced and “adultlike”.

Handwriting also affects other people's way they think of adults and children.Several studies have shown that the same average essay will score much higher if written with good penmanship and much lower if written out in poor handwriting. These studies have also found that people judge the quality of a person's ideas based on his or her handwriting. And the consequences are real: On standardized tests with handwritten sections, like the SAT, all essay that is considered hard to recognize gets a big zero.

Studies show that this isn't only an Englishlanguage phenomenon.Chinese and Japanese youths are suffering from “character amnesia”.They can't remember how to write characters, thanks to computers and text messaging. Some experts fear that Chinese writing and reading are so closely linked in the brain that China's reading ability as a nation could suffer.

31.According to the passage, it can be learned that ________.

A.many researches have been done on handwriting

B.essays can't be composed without handwriting

C.all children write faster by keyboard than by hand

D.most schools are trying to teach more handwriting

Throughout the history of the arts, the nature of creativity has remained constant to artists. No matter what objects they select, artists are to bring forth new forces and forms that cause change—to find poetry where no one has ever seen or experienced it before.

Landscape (风景) is another unchanging element of art.It can be found from ancient times through the 17thcentury Dutch painters to the 19thcentury romanticists and impressionists. In the 1970s Alfred Leslie, one of the new American realists, continued this practice.Leslie sought out the same place where Thomas Cole, a romanticist, had produced paintings of the same scene a century and a half before.Unlike Cole who insists on a feeling of loneliness and the idea of finding peace in nature, Leslie paints what he actually sees.In his paintings, there is no particular change in emotion, and he includes ordinary things like the highway in the background. He also takes advantage of the latest developments of color photography(摄影术) to help both the eye and the memory when he improves his painting back in his workroom.

Besides, all art begs the ageold question: What is real? Each generation of artists has shown their understanding of reality in one form or another. The impressionists saw reality in brief emotional effects, the realists in everyday subjects and in forest scenes, and the CroMagnon cave people in their naturalistic drawings of the animals in the ancient forests. To sum up, understanding reality is a necessary struggle for artists of all periods.

Over thousands of years the function of the arts has remained relatively constant.Past or present, Eastern or Western, the arts are a basic part of our immediate experience. Many and different are the faces of art, and together they express the basic need and hope of human beings.

36.The underlined word “poetry” most probably means ________.

  A.an object for artistic creation

  B.a collection of poems

  C.an unusual quality

  D.a natural scene

37.Leslie's paintings are extraordinary because ________.

A.they are close in style to works in ancient times

B.they look like works by 19thcentury painters

C.they draw attention to common things in life

D.they depend heavily on color photography

38.What is the author's opinion of artistic reality?

A.It will not be found in future works of art.

B.It does not have a longlasting standard.

C.It is expressed in a fixed artistic form.

D.It is lacking in modern works of art.

39.What does the author suggest about the arts in the last paragraph?

A.They express people's curiosity about the past.

B.They make people interested in everyday experience.

C.They are considered important for variety in form.

D.They are regarded as a mirror of the human situation.

40.Which of the following is the main topic of the passage?

  A.History of the arts.

  B.Basic questions of the arts.

  C.New developments in the arts.

D.Use of modern technology in the arts.

  D

Whether in the workplace or on the football field, effective teamwork can produce amazing results. However, working successfully as a team is not as easy as it may seem.Effective teamwork certainly does not just happen automatically; it takes a great deal of hard work and compromise. There are a number of factors that must be in place to make a good team.

Effective leadership is one of the most important components of good teamwork. The team's leader should possess the skills to create and preserve a positive working environment and motivate and inspire the team members to take a positive approach to work and be highly committed. An effective team leader will promote a high level of spirit and make them feel supported and valued.

Communication is a vital factor of all interpersonal relationship and especially that of a team.Team members must be able to articulate their feelings, express plans and goals, share ideas and see each other's opinions.

Conflicts will arise no matter how well a team functions together. The best way to deal with conflicts is to have some organized methods of handling conflicts.Team members should be able to voice their concerns without fear of offending others.Instead of avoiding conflict issues, a handson approach that settles them quickly is much better. It is often advised that the team leader sit with the conflicting parties and help work out their differences without taking sides and trying to remain objective if possible.

The team leader must set a good example to create good teamwork. In order to keep team members positive and committed and motivated, the team leader herself/himself needs to show these qualities. The team turns to the leader for support and guidance. So any negative words or behaviors on the leader's part can be disastrous.

Regardless of what type of work you are in, knowing how to effectively work on with a team is going to be extremely important to your success and that of your team.

41.Effective leadership is important partly because ________.

  B.ignore the team members' voices

  C.try to avoid conflict issues

  D.work out their differences

44.To become a good team leader, you have to ________.

  A.be positive and committed

  第二节 读写任务(共1小题,满分25分)

  阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。

It is common to find advertisements on TV or radio. Most advertisements are very short for people to remember.Nike, for example, has a simple slogan used all around the world: “Just do it”.Advertisements often use funny situations as well.

Advertising gives useful information about which products to buy.But modern advertising does more than give news about products and services.Today's advertisements try to get consumers to buy certain brands.Writers of advertisements are so skillful that they can sometimes persuade a consumer to wear a certain kind of clothing, eat a special kind of cereal (谷类食物), or see a movie.Consumers might want a product even if they did not see or hear advertisements for it.

For example, you probably do not need the newest cereal in the supermarket. There are probably many cereal brands on your kitchen shelves. You may not have space on a shelf for another. But if you see ads about a new cereal that is extratasty and has a free prize in the box, you may want it.

To be effective, advertising must be exciting, entertaining, or provide some pleasure. The secret of writing good advertising copy is to offer a good idea as well as a product. The idea is what the ad is really selling. One example is an ad that says eating a cereal will make a person do well in sports. That cereal brand may sell better if consumers think it offers strength and energy.

  第一节 基础写作

  范文诵读:

  Dear_Amy,

I_am_a_student_from_Xinhua_Middle_School.I am very sorry to have heard of your present situation that you are suffering terribly after having a lung cancer.

At present, ACS decides that it will give you three cents every time you receive a letter. That will offer you so much courage.I am sure that you will make efforts to overcome all kinds of difficulties, no matter how hard they are.

I will try my best to ask all my friends, schoolmates and relatives to write letters to you, which may help you and give you more courage to live on.

  May_you_recover_soon.

  Yours,

  Li_Hua
