They are at the heart of Wingspan Arts Kids Films Festival, tomorrow, in a setting any director might envy: Lincoln Center. Complete with “red carpet” interviews and various awards, the festival has much in common with events for more experienced moviemakers, except for the age of the participants: about 8 to 18.

揥hat's really exciting is that it's film for k ids by kids,” said Cori Gardner, managing director of Wingspan Arts, a nonprofit organization offering youth arts programs in the New York area. This year the festival will include films not only from Wingspan but also from other city organizations and one from a middle school in Arlington, Virginia. “We want to make this a national event,” Ms. Gardner added.

The nine shorts to be shown range from a Claymation biography of B.B. King to a science fiction adventure set in the year 3005. “A lot of the material is really mature,” Ms. Gardner said, talking about films by the New York City branch of Global Action Project, a media arts and leadershiptraining group. “The Choice is about the history of a family and Master AntiSmoker is about the dangers of secondhand smoke.” Dream of the Invisibles describes young immigrants' feelings of both belonging and not belonging in their adopted country.

Ⅲ. (10 min.)Many animal lovers would like to do more to help animals, but aren't sure where to start or feel like they just don't have the time. The good news is that there are many simple things you can do to help protect animals.

  Think twice before you decide.

The decisions you make when it comes to eating meat or other animal products can go a long way toward stopping the killing of animals. Consider eating a vegetarian(素食的)diet. If you aren't ready to make this change, ord out

Getting the word out about the problems faced by animals can be as easy as putting up a notice on your car. Also, talk to your friends and family members about important issues that are related to animals. Give some simple advice to a friend with a new pet about the serious pet overpopulation problem we're facing. Turn to some books on the subject if you are not so clear about the advice you give your friend.

  Write a letter

We've all heard the saying, 揟he pen is more powerfpul than the sword.” Put this idea to the protection of animals. If a company has practices or rules that are harmful to animals, write them a letter to let them know you are angry about them, and that you won't buy their products until they make some changes. Write letters to state and local legislators(立法者) to let them know how important it is that they support legislation that protects animals. Make them know that their actions will have a great effect on your vote.

  Be more loving

If you're considering adding a dog or a cat to your family, think about getting one from a homeless璦nimal house rather than buying a pet. There are many wonderful animals just waiting for a home. By taking back an animal from there, you will be helping in the fight against pet overpopulation, as well as giving your money to those who are responsible for taking care of pitiful animals.

Let your actions be an example to others

It may sound simple, but one of the best ways to help animals is to let your actions speak to the world. You should do the following things first by yourself: Treat all living creatures with respect. Care about your pets and look after them well. Avoid entertainment places that use animals to perform. Support legislation that protects animals. All of these things set an example for others to follow.

As everyone knows, it is very useful and interesting for us to read books. By reading books, we can learn what is going on both at home and abroad. We can also know what has happened or will happen in the past years and in the future. Some useful and helpful books often open our minds and give us new ideas. We understand how to live a happy life and learn newer and better ways of doing things through books.

Just as someone puts it, “A good book is just like a good friend.” There is also a proverb which says, “Live and learn!” Books help us to enrich our knowledge, and knowledge changes our life!

Therefore, it is very important for us to read books in our life.

  强调

Brown, 21, spent six months a year performing community service.

  14. A 填对此句的关键是要弄清第二空必须填 that,因为这是一个强调句,被强调部分为 in the small house (以及修饰它的定语从句 which was built with stones by his father)。

  15. D 此题为一个强调句型,空格处应填 that (即选D),被强调成分为 what he meant rather than what he said。

此题考查对动词的强调, 一般在动词前加did(一般过去时),do(一般现在时非第三人称单数主语),does(一般现在时第三人称单数主语), 再加动词原形;此题的“努力”很显然是过去的动作,故选A。

考查强调句,what the teacher said in class为主语从句,放在被强调成分的位置。

考查强调句,the ability to do the work 放在被强调成分的位置。

根据答语Just by accident.

It was in the same village where they spent their holiday last year that Mary's parents bought the beautiful vase.

  25. B 句子虽然比较长,但是其主干为强调句型,是对“80 years before Christopher Columbus crossed the Atlantic”进行了强调,由此可知,空白处应该填写“that”。
