MOSCOW, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Cross-Country Ski Association has decided not to host the Cross-Country World Cup Finals in Tyumen in the wake of the doping scandal, the International Ski Federation (FIS) said on Friday.
"The Russian Cross-Country Ski Association has communicated to FIS their determination to build its credibility in the cross-country skiing community and commitment to clean sport. As a first step it has returned to FIS the upcoming Cross-Country World Cup Finals, which were scheduled to take place in Tyumen in March 2017. Details of their re-allocation will be communicated by FIS in due course," the FIS press release said.
Earlier on Friday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) opened disciplinary proceedings against 28 Russian athletes, allegedly implicated in the manipulation of urine samples collected at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. The FIS suspended six Russian athletes from international competitions following the IOC decision.
