Leverkusen defeated Monchengladbach 3-1 to jump on the second position of German Bundesliga whereas St. Pauli shared points with Hoffenheim due to a thrilling closing phase on Sunday.
Leverkusen opened the scoring at the western derby against Monchengladbach at the 37th minute as defender Michal Kadlec curled a free kick over the wall into the top right corner of the net.
Just before break bottom team Monchengladbach had swallow the pill since Leverkusen doubled the lead through defender Gonzalo Castro who nodded home a cross from very close range.
Leverkusen Long term casualty and German veteran Michael Ballack staged his comeback for midfielder Sidney Sam at the 56th minute.
At the 65th minute Monchengladbach shocked Leverkusen with a terrific volley goal by defender Martin Stranzl from 16 meters. But, Leverkusen defender Gonzalo Castro destroyed all hopes of a comeback by Monchengladbach as he over lobed Christofer Heimeroth with 73 minutes into the match.
Leverkusen jumped from the fourth to second position with 36 points whilst Monchengladbach vegetates on last position of Bundesliga with 13 points.
At the other match, St. Pauli suffered a late equalizer against Hoffenheim. Hoffenheim defender Marvin Compper opened the scoring at the 29th minute. St. Pauli midfielder Max Kruse levelled the score with six minutes into second period.
As the match progressed St. Pauli took over contol and was rewarded as striker Gerald Asamoah netted the 2-1 lead nine minutes before interval. < Hoffenheim young defender David Alaba wrapped one point for his team since he slotted the equalizer with the final whistle.
St. Pauli slipped from the 15th to 16th position with 19 points meanwhile Hoffenheim climbed from the ninth to eighth position with 26 points.
