Flamengo's biggest soccer idol Zico declared his approval on Tuesday for the club's sudden interest in acquiring star midfielder Ronaldinho Gaucho.
Zico held the position of director of soccer at Flamengo for four months. However, the fan favorite and legend left the club due to major differences within the club's administration.
Zico not only stated his approval for the talented midfielder, but ironically claimed that the club desperately needs someone of his caliber to help straighten things out on the soccer pitch.
While working at Flamengo in 2010, Zico said that he tried on multiple occasions to land Ronaldinho. Now that the time is right, Zico is no longer around to participate in the negotiations.
Ronaldinho is expected to spend his New Year's Eve in Rio de Janeiro and firm up his decision as to where he will play in 2011.
Another Brazilian team confident in its ability to attract the athlete is Gremio, Ronaldinho's former team ten years ago.
