Jose Luis Oltra was named as the new coach of struggling BBVA Primera Liga side Almeria this Wednesday.

The announcement of the former Levante and Tenerife coach comes as a surprise after it appeared that Nestor Gorosito was the man destined to replace the sacked Juanma Lillo earlier in the day.

Gorosito, who coached Xerez in the second half of last season had confirmed that he would be taking over the club earlier in the day.

"I spoke with the club President (Alfonso Garcia) and we still have a few small details to iron out. But if we can smooth over these small differences I will go to Almeria. It is a real pleasure that they have chosen me," Gorosito said on Spanish radio station, Cadena Cope.

However, a late disagreement over the length of his contract proved to be a problem and Almeria quickly turned to Oltra.

Oltra has accepted a deal that lasts until the end of the current season and will be presented to the press and supporters at 5pm local time on Thursday.

His first game in charge will be on Sunday when Almeria, who are currently second from bottom of the Spanish BBVA Primera Liga, visit Valencia on Sunday evening.
