Bad luck appears to be perusing Real Madrid's central defenders this pre-season with the news that Ezequiel Garay suffered a knee injury during Friday night's 0-0 draw against Bayern Munich.
Garay fell badly following a challenge at the end of the first half and had to be replaced by Spain international Raul Albiol.
He left Bayern's Allianz Arena on crutches and the club confirmed that he has suffered a "twisted right knee, which happened while on the playing surface," before adding, "We will carry out further tests to see if any further injuries have been produced."
Garay's injury has happened just a question of days after Pepe suffered a torn muscle in his left calf. That injury will keep Pepe out of pre-season training and was a major factor in the club working quickly to sign veteran Ricardo Carvalho from Chelsea.
Meanwhile Carvalho and Albiol are the only two remaining specialist central defenders available for selection by coach Jose Mourinho.
Friday's game also saw left back Marcelo pick up a thigh injury following a heavy challenge, but it is not expected that the Brazilian's injury is serious.
