Tyson Gay from the United States edged out archrival Asafa Powell from Jamaica to win the men's 100 meters at the IAAF Diamond League event in Gateshead on Saturday.
Gay, 27, dashed over the finishing line first in a time of 9.94 seconds with Powell trailing behind in 0.02 seconds.
Gay, who took the silver behind Jamaican Usain Bolt at the World Championships in Berlin last year, said his hamstring was still tight as he had been nursing the injury this season, but managed to grab his season best.
