Sam Stosur's prospects of becoming the first Australian to win the French Open women's singles crown in 37 years have soared, following her three-set win over Justine Henin at Roland Garros overnight, The Australians reported on Tuesday.
Stosur has overpowered the four-time champion 2-6 6-1 6-4 in one hour and 46 minutes in front of a pro-Henin crowd at Court Suzanne Lenglen.
Stosur's triumph halted Henin's winning streak at Roland Garros at 24 and it was the first time the Belgian had bit the red dust in Paris since 2004.
According to Australian Associated Press (AAP), Stosur has been bursting with confidence after rifling down 26 winners to 14 against Henin.

"That's obviously a great achievement for me but it is not over yet," Stosur told AAP.
"I'm just in the quarters and going to play the No.1 player in the world next.
"It is not over yet but it is certainly something I can take a lot of confidence out of."
No Australian woman has won the French Open since Margaret Court last claimed the title back in 1973.
Stosur will next meet 2002 champion Serena Williams, the top seed having beating No.18 Shahar Peer of Israel 6-2 6-2.
