Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos on Thursday insisted that he and his companions are still hoping for a miracle that would see them crowned as La Liga champions on Sunday night.
For Real Madrid to win the title, they need to win away to a Malaga side fighting to avoid relegation, while FC Barcelona fail to win at home to Valladolid, another team trying to avoid falling into the second division.
Both sides have already set new records for the total of points they have managed to accumulate in a season with one game to play as Real Madrid have 95 and Barcelona have 96.
"Our goal is to take 98 points and wait for Barcelona's result. The number of points both teams have is amazing," said Ramos in declaration on the Real Madrid website.
"It's incredible no-one has won the title yet. We've had a great season and we still believe we can win the title," he said, admitting that the title was not in his side's hands.
"We must focus on our match against Malaga, but we don't depend on ourselves and have to wait for Barcelona's match to end. It would be a mistake for us to think about it while we are playing. We have to think about our own game," said the defender, who stressed that both his side's and Barcelona's rivals had a lot to play for.
"There is s lot at stake for both Valladolid and Malaga. They are playing to avoid relegation, so both games will be complicated, " he concluded.
