The veteran goalkeeper for the Palmeiras soccer team, Marcos, could not contain his frustration during Monday’s team practice. During an inner-squad scrimmage, the goalie cursed at his teammates and walked off the field in disappointment.
The head coach of the team, Antonio Carlos, sectioned off a small portion of the soccer field and held a scrimmage. After suffering the first goal of the scrimmage, Marcos yelled at his fellow players, questioning their interest and intensity.
Minutes later, the goalie warned midfielder Diego Souza of a cutting striker, Joaozinho. The striker proceeded to receive the ball and fire a ball into the net of Marcos.
Immediately after the second goal, Marcos simply walked off the field and was heard saying “I am not going to practice anymore.”
According to the team’s doctor, Otavio Vilhena, the athlete did not suffer any sort of injury. Vilhena confirmed what Marcos stated, saying that the goalie did not want to continue with Monday’s practice.
When asked about what happened on the field, Marcos simply stated “it was nothing.” The goalkeeper has been outspoken on many occasions about the poor performance of his team this year and the lack of support from fans. He already declared that he intends on retiring at the end of the season.
