MADRID, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Marseille supporter Santos Mirasierra, who was sent to prison for hooliganism, was set to be released on Wednesday after taking a 6,000 euros bail, a judicial source here said. The decision came just hours before Atletico Madrid's Champions League return match against the French club at the Stade Velodrome which had been labeled a high-risk fixture.
The judge in charge of the case ordered Mirasierra's release pending payment of 6,000 euros (7,700 dollars) in bail, the source said. (WWw.hxen.com)
He is expected to leave jail once his lawyer pays the bail and he will be allowed to return to France.
A Madrid court on Friday sentenced Mirasierra to three-and-a-half years in prison for acts of violence before the start of the French side's Champions League match at Atletico's Vicente Calderon stadium on October 1.
During his trial, Mirasierra denied throwing a chair which injured a policeman during fighting between Marseille fans and Spanish police before the match, but admitted pushing a policeman, saying he was defending a female Marseille supporter.
Mirasierra has been held at a Spanish jail located some 80 kilometers east of Madrid since that match.
