昨日，从宁夏教育考试院了解到，2009年上半年全国英语等级考试时间定于明年3月14日、15日进行，我区报名时间为2008年12月1日至31日，报名点设在北方民族大学外国语学院，考生可拨打电话（0951-2066615）进行相关事宜的咨询。
据了解，全国英语等级考试（Public English Test System，简称PETS）是教育部考试中心推出的以全体公民为对象的开放的非学历性考试，是除全国大学英语四六级考试外又一项测试英语水平的等级考试。考试共设五个级别和一个附属级，主要考查考生听力、语言知识、阅读、写作和口语等几个方面。每年开考两次，分别为3月和9月。报考者不受年龄、职业、学历、性别、民族等的限制，任何人都可以根据自己的英语水平选择参加其中任何一个级别的考试。 （义务教育内的考生除外）考试大
据介绍，PETS是教育部考试中心设计并负责的全国性英语水平考试体系，PETS证书可作为持有人英语知识与听说读写能力水平的证明，各等级证书表明持证人的英语已达到相应水平的要求，并可作为各用人单位录用和考核工作人员时的参考。凡获得PETS二级及以上笔试合格证的可免考自学考试英语（一）的课程；获得PETS三级及以上笔试合格证书的可免考自学考试英语（二）的课程。
