11月9日，美国宇航局(NASA)在官方网站上公开声明：2012年12月21日不是世界末日。NASA此举实在是无奈辟谣，由于对未知灾难的恐惧，许多网民认为电影《2012》关于世界末日的故事是真的，纷纷在网站留言谴责NASA隐瞒真相。
正在全球各地热映的灾难片《2012》，讲述了一个关于世界末日的故事。根据玛雅文明的记载，2012年12月21日是世界末日，这一天当黑暗降临后，黎明便永远不会到来。影片中更是援引了NASA的种种“科学说法”，证实末日说。一些观众相信影片中的故事，他们纷纷登录各大网站留言，谴责NASA隐瞒第十大行星Nibiru即将与地球相撞的真相。
11月9日，NASA被迫做出公开声明，表示《2012》中宣传的世界末日根本不存在。而日前，一些科学家针对神秘的玛雅预言为普通大众一一进行了科学的解读。
