9. as if，as though ，as it were ，look like 它们都有 仿佛、好像 之意。as if，as though是连词，前者更常见些。当内容属实时. 从句使用一般时态; 当内容不是事实时，从句使用虚拟语气：He spoke to me as ifl were a child. 他跟我说话的口气好像我是个小孩子似的。It looks as if it is going to rain.天看上去要下雨了。
as it were 是虚拟表达，句法上用作插入语，表示 可以说是：He is my best friend ，my second self，as it were. 他是我最好的朋友，可以说是我第二个自我。
look like是动词短语，看起来好像：It looks like rain. 天看上去要下雨了。
36.at first，at the beginning 它们都是起初、开始的时候之意， 前者的时间概念模糊一些，后者的时间概念清晰一些。往往涉及前后情况有变：At first I didnt like him but now I do. 起初我不喜欢他，但现在喜欢他了。They were cheerful at the beginning，开始的时候，他们情绪很高。
