介绍与教育表示引导意象的词根ducere
学生：我朋友向我介绍了一个外国朋友。
老师：那不是一个绝好的机会嘛。怎么样，自我介绍应该没问题吧?
学生：我倒是说了Let me introduce myself，但一开始不知道该怎么说。introduce 的本意 究竟是什么呢?
老师：introduce 的词源是ducere ，intro 是指内向、朝里面，所以introduce 的本 意就是将大家向里引导，后来就用于指人了。词根ducere 很多时候拼写演变成 duct，就象通风管、水管等英文词的拼写一样。你不妨就记住duct 好了。
学生：管道?
老师：对，管道最能形象地表达的duct 意象，因为duct 的本意就是引导物。现在咱们说的 管道是那种很粗的管子，古罗马时代却是指aqueduct。你能想像出是什么样的吗? 提醒一 下，拉丁语的是指水，也就是水中呼吸器中的aqua。
学生： 引导水的管道，莫非是土管?
老师：如果到意大利或法国，你会发现河面上游很多古桥。这些都是石头砌成、象铁道大桥 一样的拱形桥。古罗马时代，人们的生活用水就是通过石桥上的沟来运送的。aqueduct 便 是石桥的水沟。我们现代的aqueduct 多是建筑物里用于换气或输送液体的管道。这个意象 你可要牢牢把握。你知道education和 duct有什么关系吗?
学生：喔，这次是引导什么? 答案吗?
老师：education拆开可为e- (外面)+duc (引导)+-ation (名詞后缀)。educate 就是把头脑中原本具有的人的能力引导出来。所谓教育人员，就要把学生的干劲引导出来， 所以必须对学生进行educate。死记硬背填鸭式教育、与education 的本意却完全不一样了。
学生：原来如此，我完全明白education 的意象了。这也是托词源学education 的福啊。
