SAT的阅读测试对中国学生而言最难，大部分考生的阅读成绩在500分以下。若想取得SAT2000分以上的好成绩，阅读成绩必须要达到600分以上。紫铭学校研究了众多的SAT高分考生案例后认为，理解、速度及思路三个要素最为关键。
阅读以理解为前提，考生应重点提高对复杂句型的破解和理解能力，对文章中的起始和中心段落的理解能力。提高阅读速度应以对文章的准确理解为前提，否则毫无意义。再经过强化培训及提高后，考生的平均阅读速度应达到每分钟250字以上，低于此阅读速度，考生不可能有充足的时间完成考题。紫铭学校建议，考生除了多做模考题外，有时间时要多读英美的经典著作。在解决了对文章的理解之后，考生通过模考训练要反复总结和提高阅读的解题思路，还要将掌握的解题思路应用于新的考题来检验效果，多次反复直至最佳。
