出题者之所以只出初中水平的GMAT数学难度是因为如果他们用高等数学的话，那些数学专业的学生就会占了不公平的便宜。所以在GMAT考试中，你见不到像微积分，线性代数这样较高的GMAT数学难度水平的题。虽然考生很少会碰到难题，但ETS却遇到了难题：如何让即使是哈佛的毕业生也会在这初中数学中做错题?答案是尽量多用陷阱并增加题目的复杂程度。 应对GMAT数学难度水平的一大技巧就是善于运用草稿纸。考试时尽量少用心算，因为这样很容易出错，特别是在考试当天，时间的压力增加了你的紧张程度。由于你不能在屏幕上做记号，所以唯一的办法是将疑难的题目，特别是较复杂的计算搬到草稿纸上。书面的推导不仅能减少你的失误，也能让你拥有较好的心理状态并以较短的时间答每一道题 看到上面的说明，你就会发现，在整个GMAT数学考试中不会出现微积分，线性代数之类较高难度的GMAT数学题，但是ETS却会在题目以及答案中设置很多很多的陷阱，因此善用草稿纸，减少心算无疑是数学取得高分的王道。
