利用语境理解词汇的文化意义
语言作为文化的载体最能体现一个民族的政治、历史、生活习俗、宗教信仰、价值观念等文化特征。了解英语国家的社会历史、文化传统和风俗习惯等，有助于准确理解词汇的文化内涵。
例如：He has no mercury in him.
如果按照mercury最基本的意思， 这句话就会翻译成他体内没有水银。实际上，西方古代哲学家以mercury为天地万物的元气， 故mercury至今仍可用来指活力或精神。因此此句译成他没有精神或他毫无活力。
